WALLER — The Waller Lady Bulldogs volleyball team is 14-11 after a 3-1 road win at Willis on Friday and will host Fulshear on Tuesday in the last major non-district date before league play.

MaxPreps lists the varsity record at 14-11 (.560) and 0-0 in district. The Lady Bulldogs are 2-1 at home, 5-2 on the road and 7-8 on neutral courts. They carry a one-match winning streak into Tuesday night.

Fulshear to be measuring stick

The Willis result is the latest posted score. Waller went to Willis High on Sept. 4 and beat the Wildkats 3-1, moving a game over .500 after a long tournament stretch in August.

The Chargers enter the week 16-8 and sit around No. 65 in the MaxPreps Texas rankings — a step up from most of Waller’s August slate and a useful measuring stick before district opens.

How the early ledger looks

The rest of the early-season ledger is now on the board. Waller opened with sweeps at Spring and Bryan on Aug. 11, then split a heavy tournament run that included losses to Cedar Ridge, Stony Point, Antonian Prep, Springtown, Weiss, Klein Cain, Klein Oak and Bowie, and wins over Vista Ridge, Cypress Ridge, Cypress Falls (twice), Klein Collins, Cypress Woods, Navasota, Cleburne, Hardin-Jefferson, Temple and London.

Hardin-Jefferson was one of the cleaner midweek results — a 2-0 tournament win. Bowie edged Waller 2-1 on Aug. 29 to snap a short winning streak.

District snapshot

District play starts soon.

Ranks and records from MaxPreps as of Sept. 7. Cypress Ranch is also No. 24 in the TGCA Class 6A coaches poll. Waller is not ranked by TGCA.

What’s next

The first official league week starts Sept. 15. Waller hosts Cypress Springs at 5:30 p.m., then Foster at home on Friday, Sept. 18. Road district dates follow at Cypress Ranch (Sept. 22) and George Ranch (Sept. 29). A return trip to Fulshear is scheduled for Oct. 1.

Head coach Susan Foy’s varsity roster is senior-heavy in the back row — Cassie Webb, Valerie Gonzalez, Kaylin Bailey, Marley Eckerman, Sasha Keys and Lexi Huynh — with sophomores Sydney Keys, Alaenah Frank, Katelynn Winfrey and Evelyn Selig and junior Kristin Nichols also listed.

Last season Waller finished 30-18 and 8-7 in district (fourth). This group has already played a heavier tournament load this season. Tuesday is the last chance to stack a result against a ranked non-district opponent before the district table starts to matter.

Go Lady Bulldogs.
