WALLER — The Waller Bulldog football team has defeated the Cy Park Tigers to end the regular 2025 campaign, 55-7, at Daikin Stadium here, tonight.
The Bulldogs scored at will from the beginning, and ended the night with a running clock to wrap up things faster once the effective on-the-field decision was made.
Waller ends the season technically tied for second place in District 16-6A with a 5-2 league record. However, the other 5-2 team, Cypress Fairbanks ISD’s Bridgeland High School — (Disclaimers: This website, related social media outlets, and future expansions, are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Bridgeland Development, LP. BRIDGELAND® is a registered trademark of Bridgeland Development, LP.) — won the tiebreaker game a few weeks ago. Thus the Bulldogs are effectively third place in the district.
HELLO, BI-DISTRICT TITLE GAME
Waller ends the regular season at 7-3 overall, with the aforementioned 5-2 district record.
The Bulldogs will enter the state playoffs against Tomball ISD’s Tomball Cougars — yes, that’s a mouthful. For clarity, Tomball’s school district has two high schools and Waller will face off with the original school there.
According to Waller head football coach Marcus Mendoza, the Bulldogs will play at Tomball ISD Stadium, against the Tomball Cougars, next Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
HOW PLAYOFFS WORK
According the University of Texas’ UIL, since the playoff brackets were split into two divisions decades ago, 64 teams from across 32 districts will enter each Division’s brackets. The University Interscholastic League’s website states, “the top four teams from each district advance to the playoffs. The two schools with the largest enrollments automatically advance to the Division I bracket. The remaining two schools advance into the Division II bracket. There are two state champions per conference in Conference 6A.”
Let’s do the math for District 16-6A. Here are the top four playoff teams, followed by their 2023 snapshot student attendance data. Bolded teams are the Division II playoff teams.
- Cy Ranch (district champion) : 3,507
- Bridgeland® (see earlier legal disclaimer): 3,653.5
- Waller: 2,848
- Cy Lakes: 3,277.5
Waller and Cy Lakes will go the Division II route, while the other two teams will enter Division I.
Here’s the math for District 15-6A. Here are the top four playoff teams, followed by their 2023 snapshot student attendance data. Bolded teams are the Division II playoff teams.
- Klein Collins: 3,326
- Magnolia: 2,287
- Tomball: 3,079
- Klein: 3,435
Magnolia and Tomball will go the Division II route, while Klein Collins and Klein will enter Division I.
The playoff bracket will have Waller entering the Division II brackets as the “champion” and Tomball as the “runner up” seeds.
The Division I and Division II teams will not meet again this season. However, it is possible for Waller and Cy Lakes to face off for the Region II championship.
