WALLER — You can set your calendars for the fall now that the Waller Bulldogs have announced their official varsity schedule for the 2026 season.

SCRIMMAGES

Scrimmages are scheduled for Aug. 13 at Magnolia West, and Aug. 20 at Waller ISD’s Daikin Stadium. Both scrimmages have a current start time of 6:30 p.m. For the uninitiated, scrimmages are essentially glamorized practices with another team involved.

PRE-DISTRICT

While pre-district game results don’t influence league standings for playoff berths, they let the Bulldogs hone their skills and allow the coaches to focus their strategies with live football action.

The real meat and potatoes of the season starts with Week 1 action on Friday, Aug. 28 as the Bulldogs are scheduled to host Houston Davis for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff at Waller ISD’s Daikin Stadium.

Waller is then set to visit Spring at Planet Ford Stadium on Sept. 4 with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.

The Bulldogs are slated to visit Conroe at Moorehead Stadium on Sept. 11, also with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.

Waller’s “bye” week would fall on Sept. 18. This is a great time for fans to relax as the real season begins the following week.

DISTRICT 23-6A

In short, everything that’s happened so far in the season is just fun and memories. The marbles count in district play. Starting in Week 5, Every win and loss counts toward which teams in District 23-6A advance into the playoffs, or stay home and move onto basketball. Additionally, the state’s University Interscholastic League put Waller into a district with CyFair ISD and Rose-Rich area schools for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 seasons.

League action begins with Waller hosting the Fulshear Chargers on Sept. 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Waller ISD’s Daikin Stadium. For those keeping count, Fulshear is part of Rosenberg Lamar ISD.

In Week 6, the Cy Park Tigers are slated to host Waller at CyFair ISD’s Pridgeon Stadium in northern Cypress on Oct. 3 with an early 6:00 p.m. kickoff.

The league play continues as the Bulldogs host Cy Spring’s Panther team at Waller ISD’s Daikin Stadium on Oct. 9 with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to host the Foster Falcons, also a Rosenberg Lamar ISD team, for homecoming on Oct. 16, with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.

Waller is then slated for its only game at CyFair ISD’s Berry Center and FCU Stadium on Oct. 27, as the Bulldogs faceoff with the Cy Ranch Mustangs. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The MWT (Mustangs Win Tonight) ‘Stangs were the district champion team last season.

Waller is scheduled to host CyFair ISD’s Bridgeland High School — not to be confused with the NYC-owned Howard Hughes community that worked a naming rights deal with Cypress Fairbanks ISD — during Week 10 of the season. (Disclaimers: This website, related social media outlets, and future expansions, are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Bridgeland Development, LP. The regular season will conclude with Waller visiting George Ranch at Rosenberg Lamar ISD’s Traylor Stadium with an early 6:30 p.m. kickoff.

PLAYOFFS

In Texas, the high school football playoffs are determined by the district standings at the end of the season. The UIL has watered down the playoff scene since the 1990s, when two divisions were introduced to the largest conference at the time.

Today, according the University of Texas’ UIL, since the playoff brackets were split into two divisions decades ago, 64 teams from across 32 districts will enter each Division’s brackets. The University Interscholastic League’s website states, “the top four teams from each district advance to the playoffs. The two schools with the largest enrollments automatically advance to the Division I bracket. The remaining two schools advance into the Division II bracket. There are two state champions per conference in Conference 6A.”

The Division I and Division II teams will not meet again this season. So it’s possible for two teams from a single district to be Division I and II state champions.

Oddly enough, 0-10 teams have made it into the playoffs at the smaller school classifications.

Once the playoffs begin, there are six rounds of sudden-death games. Win and you continue on, lose and you’re out — unless there is a rare forfeit.

The playoffs will culminate with a week of state championships, mainly at AT&T Stadium the week before Christmas holiday break.
